WAKEFIELD — Beginning the week of May 22, the town will begin roadway improvements to Valley Street, Cottage Street, Hart Street and Melvin Street from Cottage to Nahant Street.

DPW Director Richard Stinson said, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The goal is to complete the 1st phase of the work by June 30th or sooner (weather permitting).

“During some of the work phases you will receive updates which will provide more details and schedules. If you have any questions, please contact Don Schneider, Highway Supervisor, at 781-246-6314 or Eric Sherman at 781-246-6308, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.”

Phase 1 will consist of:

• Lowering of structures

• Reclamation of the road

• Bituminous binder course of pavement

Phase 2 will be done in the fall and will consist of:

• Raising of structures

• Necessary curbing

• Final paving

During certain phases of the work, no parking will be allowed along the road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All work is weather permitting. In the case of rain, the schedule will be moved up one day or until the weather clears.

There is a five year moratorium on non-emergency roadway excavations once the work is completed.
